Shri Krishnakumar Sinhji Vyayam Mandir –
SKKSVM The foundation of Shree Krishnkumarsinhji Vyayam Mandir traces back to the years 1928–29, during the reign of Maharaj Krishnkumarsinhji of Bhavnagar State.
Physical Training-Akhado
A group of devoted youth from Savarkundla— Balibapa, Betarjibhai Keshavjibhai, Manibhai Trivedi, and others—approached Maharajshree with a vision rooted in patriotism and the physical development of youth. Inspired by the ideals of India’s freedom movement, they presented a live demonstration of traditional physical disciplines- dumbbell exercises, ring workouts, and martial forms including Talwar Dav, Lathi Dav, and Aankh-Shrat Dav. Deeply impressed by their commitment, discipline, and enthusiasm, Maharaj Krishnkumarsinhji inquired about their needs. The youth expressed their desire for a dedicated space to continue their physical training, which they believed was essential in preparing themselves and others for the nation’s struggle for independence.
Establishment of Akhado
Recognizing the sincerity of their purpose, Maharajshree generously allocated a piece of land that had recently been used as badminton and tennis courts, enabling them to pursue their mission. This act of support laid the foundation for what would later become a historic institution. Following India’s independence, the land and its associated activities were formally organized and registered as a public trust.
